Social media is the primary marketing tool for numerous brands. It goes without saying that if you’re not on social media, you don’t exist. That’s the harsh reality. But in such uncertain times, how do you interact and engage with your audience effectively?

COVID-19 has altered our sense of reality and changed the way we do things; consequently, you need to know how to adapt accordingly.

Here are five things your brand should be doing on social media during lockdown:

1. Offer support and reassurance

In times of crisis, you don’t want to abandon your audiences but you also don’t want to appear oblivious. Consider shifting the focus from sales driven advertising to utilizing your platform to be a force for good. Even simple supportive messages will suffice.

2. Keep it genuine

3. Increase interaction

Everyone is in dire need of some kind of connection right now. Audiences aren’t expecting brands to be perfect. Opt to try a new trend, go Live on Instagram. Now is the time to try something new. Your audience will remember that you made them feel included and you got through these tough times together.

4. Know where your customers are

You’re usually aware of your audience’s time usage on each platforms. However, since lockdown, this has probably changed. Messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger have increased in usage and video chat app downloads have spiked. Take some time to re-assess where your audience is at.

5. Get creative!!!
